Murals
My specialty are landscapes. I have a fondness
for forests, mountains, streams, and the tranquility of an untouched
scene. Unfortunately, we rarely see such beauty due to our hectic
lives or maybe we live too far from the
wilderness. Nothing is impossible and Trompe L'oeil murals are meant
to "deceive the eye" by depicting images as
realistic. By using this style of painting we can bring the beauty of our world
indoors and below is just one example.

The following
images show the process of painting a mural. This mural is located in a
master bathroom and a window like the one painted above is located on the
opposite wall.

A large, untiled area above the
shower made a great place to add the illustion
of having another window in the bathroom. The image was chosen from one of
my photographs. The shape of the window was drawn onto
the wall and a simple outline was painted over the white
background.

An underpainting
with limited detail was painted before adding value and
details. Once finished with
highlights and shadows the tape could be removed.

As you can see, the scene was
over-lapped with the image of the window. A number of small changes
were made from the original window due to size limitations and the location of
the mural.

Detail
of the
mountain.
Detail of the window sill.
This mural is a
work in progress.

This bonus room
is located at the top of the stairs and was the perfect space for painting
a large mural. This Colorado scene, picked from my personal
photographs, fills the entire wall.

The
image above is just an underpainting. A complete mural will show value and
details. Once the mural is complete I will update this site and add the
finished product.
Murals in the Pine
View Middle School cafeteria
When teaching middle art in Florida, a number of murals
were painted in the cafeteria to enhance the environment for students.
The scene below shows my students artwork displayed above a mural
I painted for the back of the cafeteria. The three large images of a
lake were
painted to depict the scene behind a local restaurant
in Land O' Lakes, Florida. The restaurant had
three large windows showing the beauty of the lake behind it and many local people
recognized the scene right away.

It was difficult
to get a clear picture of the back wall - the cafeteria is a busy place
with plenty of tables. Hopefully you can get an idea of how the scene
looks by viewing both of these images.

The
bottom picture was painted many years ago and it's now gone. This was the
last photograph taken before the entire wall was taken down and rebuilt to accomidate
more students in the cafeteria.

This is a sample
of my work and I hope to have more examples posted once they are
painted.
